Newsgraphics on Norway massacre

Condolences: I can’t even begin to describe how much I despise the actions of the Norwegian terrorist. I and many Danes moan with our friends from Norway. Keep those roses above your head.
This blog is not about terror, therefore I will not begin to discuss the events, even though I have a lot on my heart about the matter of him and his trial. His propaganda should by any means be stopped, so that he won’t encourage weak souls to do what he did. One thing we can do to stop that, is to destroy his “manifest”.
Newsgraphics on the massacre: Since the horrible events occurred on Friday, I have been busy, trying to cover the case at Ritzaus Bureau. With both my colleagues on vacation, I was obviously pretty busy scrambling to make sense of the whole happening.
I contacted the Swedish Graphic Bureau for help, and luckily they where able to send me some stuff I could use. Without their aid, my coverage of the case would have been a bit thin:

Is that Sinatra on the radio?

One of the cool things about being apprentice at Ritzaus Bureau is that my co-workers are so thoughtful giving me many of the exciting subjects there is to illustrate. Recently to name a few: Le Mans 2009, “studenterhuen”, Michael Jackson and the assignment above. Well, Tuesday it’s been 40 years since the first man sat his foot on the moon and this is how I choose to tell the story. For me, the moon is something dreaming, far away, exciting, nerdy, with aliens and stuff. Overall I’m satisfied with the mood in the graphic. IF I had more time, I think I would have implemented the Cold War aspect some more. I roughly had around six hours to make it.

Lover not a fighter

I spend most of the night watching CNN and most of the day working on a graphic about MJ. I have to say that I’m pretty satisfied with it after all. The illustrations could use some more time as well as the justification in the text – but the mood, colors and the feeling in the graphic I think is worhty for a king. (What do you think of this?) Well well. Now I deserve a vacation! A week full of sun, friends and amazing music at Roskilde!

Graphic sellers

Many of you helped me with a infographic last week about “studenterhuerne”. I wrote that I hoped to see the graphic in some of the newspapers the next day. I was able to find it in about 5-6 papers, so I’m pretty satisfied with that. Especially I think the page layout was VERY well in Tuesdays Metroxpress. Photos around and placed in a corner where the students will be able to ripp or cut it off. My boss tells me that these type of graphics always is selling great. Well here are some shots of this weeks best sellers. Thanks for helping me, and thanks for the heads up Phil.

Summer, kisses, friends, fun

Hi! I quickly want to share an infographic I made this morning at Ritzau. I had the pleasure of a nostalgic flashback to the times after high school graduation. The task was to make a graphic about “studenterhuen”. I just sent the graphic to the danish press, I hope it’s in the papers tomorrow. Thanks friends on facebook, for helping me remember all the rules – it was fun!

Oi Va Voi
I had an amazing morning today. Sonny picked me up and we went out shooting some photos in an old elevator at Jorcks Passage. It was so much fun and inspiring. I can’t wait to see the result and we will of course post it here if they are worth it, so stay tuned. While my brother was enjoying the weather all day, I was at Ritzau making graphics for “Festival de Cannes”, I also fell over this cool stop-motion-music video. The song is nice as well.

Introducing Ritzau
Today I am introducing a new type of post. As many of you might already know, I am currently stuyding to become a Media Graphic Designer and in 2007 i was lucky to get a apprenticeship at denmarks largest news agency Ritzaus Bureau. Every day Ritzau Grafik produce at least six newsgraphics which goes with the journalists’ articles online and in press. Once in a while i would like to share some of the graphics we make. I hope you will enjoy these posts and you should feel free to comment on them! (Click on the graphic to read the article online)
I made this graphic sunday morning. It shows how many tickets the cinemas across europe sold last year (tickets per person). The headline “Europe in the movies” I made to express the feeling of sitting in the movies watching the statistics on the screen. It took around 50 minutes. Pick up metroxpress, urban etc. tommorow and hopefully you will find it there.
