Thomas Dybdahl with a new album

In my opinion, Thomas Dybdahl is one of the most talented songwriters in the Scandinavian music scene. Influenced by the tradition of American folk-rock from the 70s, his sound is like no other at the moment. I regularly listen to Dybdahl while reading or doing the dishes, and was lucky to see him and his band several times in Copenhagen.
He’s out with a new album and I just came across this wonderful concert for you to watch.

A ‘Charming Man’ in the Opera

daily
For me, it was a bit weird sitting down to a ‘rock’-concert like Morrissey in the Opera in Copenhagen. Nevertheless, I think I had one of my best concerts-experiences in many years.
Iv’e been a fan of The Smiths and Morrissey for exactly 2 years now, especially his first solo-albums I tend to put on the stereo over and over again. So when he entered the stage with the words “I’m having the time of my life, and I love it!” followed by one of my favorite songs “First Of the Gang To Die”, he hit me with his bullet in my gullet. Music was loud, Moz’s vocal and inscrutable master lyrics was magnificent and the crowd was absolutely thrilled with everything.

My brother on the right hand side, my friend Mølle just in front, Sine in the white shirt with her girls in the middle.

Mølle and Sine arranged the evening.

Lars you’ve got my attention

Lars Von Triers last film ‘Antichrist’ was pretty disturbing for me, and it might be a cinema-experience I will never forget. It was a beautiful and horrifying movie with Gainsbourg and Dafoe doing a splendid job.
I’m the type of person who appreciates the soundstage, aesthetics and the beautiful pictures, and even though I’m definitely not a big fan of Dunst or Sutherland for that matter, I think that the trailer of Von Triers ‘Melancholia’ promises us exactly that. I’m pretty sure it won’t make as big an impression on me as Antichrist did, and I have my concerns with this ‘apocalyptic wedding’ plot, but I will be sitting in front row for this one anyway. Anyone care to join?

Jamie XX making love to The Black Bob Dylan

It’s kinda old news, I know. Nevertheless I just recently realized how awesome a combination Jamie XX and Gil Scott-Heron is!

I wrote about the Black Bob Dylan on the blog last year when he was in Copenhagen, but this remake of his album “I’m New Here” is magnificent.

Great for a Friday night. Here’s two small tasty bites from the album: “We’re New Here”.

Make sure to check out Music is Art, which is where I grabbed the tracks from.

A fresh start

A fresh start

Hi everyone. First and foremost Happy New Year. It’s been a while since we served you anything delicious on the blog, but don’t worry, the blog is not dead, sick or anything like that. We simply have been to busy lately. Nevertheless I promise, that the forthcoming time we have a great bunch of stuff ready for you.

One of the things, besides work, that has taking my time, is HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”. I was lucky to see the first episode in high def in Cinemateket. The Pilot was directed by Martin Scorsese and is the most expensive pilot episode produced in television history. The great acting, the story, the costume design amazed me, but also how digital art has evolved the last couple of years:

Before I saw this clip, I had no idea it was all digital. Sad? Good? Obviously impressive.
Production for the series’s 80-minute pilot cost 18 million dollar, and the estimated costs for the first season to range upwards of 65 million dollar.

I also love the intro! The story summed up in less than 1:30 minutes while introducing the main character, Nucky Thompson, ”ruler of the boardwalk.”

Mixtunes: With Milk and Falling Leaves

This post is inspired by a former coworker at Ritzau, Casper Ravnsted. On his blog, he is currently trying to find “the best song for the fall”. Many great tracks is suggested by his friends, but I wanted to find my own favorite. So I skimmed my iTunes and collected some tracks for you, so you can enjoy it with a cup of coffee and a good book. I really hope you like it. If you do, fell free to Download it.

Why should I stay here?

Do yourself a favour, plug in a decent pair of speakers or headphones.

This post might seem a bit weird. I just wan’t to express my excitement towards Radiohead and especially the number Weird Fishes. This must be the best piece of music ever written. I’m sitting here sobbing. To whom it may concern: I would like to have this track played at my funural.

In the deepest ocean
The bottom of the sea
Your eyes
They turn me

Why should I stay here?
Why should I stay?

I’d be crazy not to follow
Follow where you lead
Your eyes
They turn me

Turn me on to phantoms
I follow to the edge of the earth
And fall off
Everybody leaves
If they get the chance
And this is my chance

I get eaten by the worms
And weird fishes
Picked over by the worms
And weird fishes
Weird fishes
Weird fishes

Yeah I
I’ll hit the bottom
Hit the bottom and escape
Escape
And I
I’ll hit the bottom
Hit the bottom
Hit the bottom and escape
Escape

I drove in a Little Red Corvette, and was surprised at what I got

Copyright Boston.com / Big Picture / Matt Cardy

After a couple of fantastic days at Roskilde Festival, I’m back to reality in Copenhagen. 4 days of great music and company of friends is over, as the weekend peaked sunday evening with Prince performing his tiny ass off at Orange scene in front of around 70.000 people. I got to see several of my favorite bands, all of them were incredible. Especially The National, which I had pretty high expectations for.

Well, even though the festival in Roskilde all in all went great, I can’t help but thinking, that I would like try Glastonbury next year. I have never been to England, and Glastonbury looks so nice and would be a great opportunity for me to see the country. More amazing photos at Boston.com

We’re gonna give you a new name tonight

If you drove up here in a Little Red Corvette, you might be surprised at what you gonna get

Alright. I can’t get around Roskilde festival without mentioning the purple prince. I sure hope to see him in great shape. 70.000 people singing along with his never dying classics sunday night seems like a really fine way to end the festival. Here’s a taste from his brilliant first live album “One Night Alone!” – Please let us get a glimpse of that on Sunday.

Bjerringbro by night (Roskilde Festival)

Copyright: Gaffa / Sofie Amalie Klogart

I can’t wait for this day to end. Tomorrow around noon, I will be sitting in a train towards Roskilde. With the weather being absolutely perfect, friends already camping and enjoying cold drinks in the sun, and a sea of great concerts coming up, I think that it’s safe to say that this weekend will be amazing. This year, I really haven’t had the time to look closer at the music plan. Nevertheless, I quickly found some artist I will be seeing!

Carsten Valentin Jørgensen (danish)

Der er næppe noget der swinger
som Bjerringbro by night
hele hovedgaden emmer

The danish classic will be awesome.

Copenhagen X – Sleep Party People

I wish I had found this website some time earlier, but I figured it is a good way to warm up for Roskilde anyway. A collaboration between Sony and Roskilde Festival called Copenhagen X, arranged 18 sessions with 18 bands as a tribute to “live music”, giving a total of 70 tracks for free on their website. Check out the website. There is tons of great music experiences awaiting.

Wow. I have never heard about Sleep Party People before this. The arrangement, the beautiful music, the mood. It’s absolutely magnificent. It’s definitely on my “must see on Roskilde festival”-list. They are on for warm-up on 29th 15.00 at Pavilion Junior.

The lead singer in I Got You On Tape Jacob Bellens is so amazing. I love the sound of this band. Mmmh. Unfortunately, they are not performing at Roskilde this year. (Give it a minute to get in the right mood)

Slaraffenklang – a free album on a rainy Monday

Kenneth NguyenPhoto by Kenneth Nguyen.

I can not believe I missed this! I have been listening to Efterklang for a while, and I have become a big fan. Apparently they played in Pumpehuset with Slaraffenland a while ago. I read about the concert at a relatively new, but awesome blog called The Bistro. You should definitely give it a try, great food and splendid service – Do not worry about you not having the time, it is open for you 24 hours a day.
Also, check out the man behind the post: Photographer Kenneth Nguyen. He took some great photos at the concert, and has an awesome portfolio, recently updated with photos from the Distortion festival in Copenhagen.

Here is a tasty bite from the concert:
