Siong Chin Chan and his fantastic blog

Enough with the Ipad. Tomorrow I’m saying goodbye to Frederiksberg and hello to Nørrebro. I’m moving into an apartment which happens to have three rooms – that means an extra room for fun. Yay! So, a while ago, a good friend of mine gave me a very old film processing set from Tsjekkoslovakia (I think). I can’t wait to get that up and running in my new fun-room. Therefore I was searching the web for photographs, processing, photo-art, inspiration etc., and came across a magnificent site narrated by Siong Chin Chan, who is a User Experience Designer, living in Vancouver. To make a long story short – I love his blog. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a blog with so many amazing stories and photographs in such a high quality! Check it out!

Simple infographic about the new tablet

Copyright /ritzau/

My thoughts were basically to describe what this new gadget is all about. Specifications, images and a short description of the fight between E-book readers and tablets computers. The reason why I choose to make an infographic about the tablet, was because of the media hype. Somehow Apple’s secrecy and keynote events seems to make people talk. Also, this is not a new phone or computer. It could be a new way of using the internet, or a new way of reading books.

Allow me to be thrilled – could this kill the laptop?

So, the much anticipated tablet from Apple was finally revealed. The Ipad. First of all I must admit that I’m case incompetent, since I’m a big sucker for Apples products – Especially at first sight. Nevertheless, allow me to be thrilled!

+ On the plus side: Design is, as always, marvelous. Size seems suitable, handy and light. At 499$ I think the price is alright. 10 hours of battery life is great, not to mention a month in standby. I could definitely see myself browsing the web or reading a magazine on that thing.

- On the negative side: I’m beginning to think, that there’s to much black and to little display. It seems a bit slippery. Seeing myself buying a product like the Ipad, that I actually CAN live without, at that price, is doubtful right now.

BUT – When ordinary people realize that browsing the web, sending emails and playing video games with an Ipad is all they need, why then throw huge amounts of money after a heavy, closed device? It might not be good for photoshop or 3D programs, but this is not important for the average user. PC’s/laptops will only be used by experts in the future. I think they’ve got it right.
This was just my first thoughts, but I can’t wait to get my hands on it, and then give you a more solid evaluation. What are your thoughts?
I’m doing an infographic tomorrow morning for the newspapers, I might share it with you.

Flash designer goes clay

Images from Fecal Face

During my lunch break today, I bumped into an interview with a really cool woman. Meredith Dittmar is a 35 year old former Flash Designer/developer, who one day became full time clay-artist. As I wrote in the post yesterday about collages, I’m very inspired by the DIY way of working. I like the way Meredith describes her work process: “…throw it all into the brain blender and see what comes out…”, and I think the outcome of that way of thinking, is exactly what makes her work so great. It’s like thinking like a child. No worries, no boundaries, just plain creativity.

7 rules to understand design & designers

Harmonie Interieure
Harmonie Intérieure

At first I came across some really cool wallstickers from Harmonie Intérieure (Which you can see in the end, after the jump). But after browsing Harmonie’s website, and after reading about the company, I was blown away by their story and photos from their home in France. I would love to live in a house like this one day. Look – they even customized their ugly fridge!

Christa Joo Hyun D’Angelo

Lately I’ve become quit fond of artistic collages. Christa Joo Hyun D’Angelo is a Korean-Italian American artist, who makes magnificent works with highly sexual undertones. Tongues, long legs with a little fetishist edge – I think it’s absolutely beautiful, and I recommend, that you read more about Christa, and browse through her portfolio. She makes me wan’t to experiment some more with scissors and magazines.

Bits and bots, Odds and ends

New beginnings

Do you guys like the new look? To be honest, we are not completely done, so you will experience some changes along the way. We wanted a smaller blog, that was more easy to consume and with a simple crisp look. Less focus on the blog, more on our posts. Names are always a bit difficult for blogs. We wanted to get away from being drunk, and focus on what we write about. We come across all sorts of odds and ends during our daily work with design. Sometimes it hits our eyes, ears and hearts – that’s what we will be sharing with you guys.
Spread the word, send us your stuff, and follow the new blog. Some good things is coming up! Yay!
